Gbajabiamila Speaks On Efforts To End ASUU Strike

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has said efforts are ongoing to end the lingering strike action embarked on by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Gbajabiamila said this on Tuesday in his remarks at the opening of plenary after the National Assembly returned from its two-month recess.

He said the National Assembly is doing its possible best to end the face-off between the Federal Government and the striking lecturers in the interest of the Nigerian youths and Nigeria’s future.

The speaker said he will meet with the national leadership of ASUU to explore whatever options the parliament can help resolve the current impasse.

He said, “It has become necessary for the House to intervene in the extended face-off between the Academic Staff Union of Universities and the Federal Government. This current impasse is due primarily to disagreements over conditions of service of the staff and funding of universities in general.
